AF470: African Bow and Arrow set

A complete set including a fur covered bow, seven arrows and a leather quiver. All pieces have good patina from age and use. The leather with fur on the bow is most interesting as it has no seams on the sides. The only explanation I can think of is that these are the tails of monkeys that are slipped onto the wood on each end. The metal tips on the arrows are finely forged, but the mostly leaf made fletchings are missing. The leather quiver is in good condition with carrying strap and cover. I do not know the tribal affiliation of this piece but the Museum inventory suggests that it may be Mbuti of the Ituri Forrest of D. R. Congo.

Deaccessioned from the Children's Museum of Indianapolis in 2010. This whole set was donated to the Museum in 1977.
