AS463: Japanese Wakizashi

An authentic old Japanese wakizashi sword. This beautiful sword is quite complete and in good condition. It has not been messed around with or had pieces interchanged. The original silk cord is broken where it goes through the kashiri, but it still stays on. One very nice kogatana is present, but there is a smaller place on the scabbard for a second that is missing. The lacquer on the scabbard is not in great condition. The blade looks to have some of the polish remaining, but I am sure it could be made to look better in the right hands. The tang looks to be sealed with shellac or something so I believe it has not rusted over time. I am NOT an authority on Japanese swords but I believe the information in the museum records to be correct stating that this is an 18th century sword signed by Toshinaga or Jumyo. Please email for further photos if needed.

Deaccessioned from the Children's Museum of Indianapolis in 2010. This sword was donated to the Museum in 1978.

31" Overall with a 22 1/4" Blade. Circa 18th century Japan.    ....$2500
