Antique Swords of Borneo

INDO587: Dayak / Murut Pakayun Sword

INDO587: Dayak / Murut Pakayun Sword

A rare Pakayun sword from the Murut peoples of Northern Borneo. The wood handle is carved in the classical forked shape and has a good quality bronze collar with disc hand guard. The blade is well forged showing a distinct linear pattern with a hardened edge. The pointy blade tip is an unusual style as is the small decorations of dots and lines on the side and back edge. The original scabbard is very well carved with both floral and Dayak Aso motifs. It is sealed with some kind of red lacquer, and the overall sword has a good patina from age and use.

34" overall with a 24" blade that is 3/8" thick at the back edge. 19t century, Northern Borneo, Indonesia.    ....Sold
