PH821: Moro Large Barong Sword

This is a very old and very large Moro Barong sword. The handle is almost a Jungayan style, but not quite large enough to get that distinction. The finely grained wood handle has an unusual and intricate crack restoration that was done in situ by the Moro, and possibly when it was made. There are over 20 small round wood pegs set int the handle to fill crack or defect in the wood. The silver collar is stable but has one hole worn in the bottom side. The overall patina is very good with a lot of wear and use. The large well forged blade shows a very good and bright pattern with a hardened edge. This sword has it all; age, quality and large size.    

24" overall with a 17" blade that is 5/16" thick at the back edge. 19th Century. Southern Philippines .    ....$750.00
