PH832: Moro Large Barong Sword

A large Moro Barong fighting sword. The burl wood handle has nice grain patterns, but also some flaws and cracks, though it feels strong and stable. There are woven twine bands, and a silver color that has some small losses. The long and heavy blade has a good active pattern and hardened edge showing. There is an odd rectangle section in one side of the blade that is present after cleaning and etching. I do not know what is causing this as it is smooth and present even when the blade is cleaned. The pattern seems to run through the rectangle, not like an inset different piece of metal. The original scabbard is in good condition and has nice carving filled with kaolin powder at the top and point.     

29 inches overall with a 18 inch blade that is 5/16 inch thick at the back edge. 19th century, Southern Philippines.    ....$525.00
