OC492: Asmat Shield

An unusual small Asmat shield with natural pigment color. The abstract cubistic pattern is not typical, but deeply carved into the shield. The colors are a natural clay pigment. The back has some charcoal line drawings, and the handle has a good dark patina from age and use.     

49" tall by 13 1/2" wide. Mid 20th century, Irian Jaya.    ....$1500.00
