19th century Tenegre sword form the island of Panay. The handle is made of horn which is more rare then the wood handled Tenegre, unfortunately it is missing the side of the face on one side, an old break or cut. The well carved handle is in the form of the long nosed monster with large fangs. The blade shows a hardened edge, and has a small round purposeful mark or charge in the center. The blade is beveled on the left side indicating that it was made for a LEFT handed warrior. Blades that are flat on one side and beveled on one side are made for optimal cutting in one angled direction depending on which hand wields the sword. An esoteric detail, but also a bit more rare. The original scabbard is missing some of the horn bands. 24 inches overall with a 18.5 inch blade that is 3/16 inch thick at the back edge. 19th century, Panay, Visayan Islands, Central Philippines. $650.00
